Isolation

Isolation is Ashley’s first exhibition, a journey through the photographer’s lens during a period in his life when he felt somewhat reborn. The work is representative of his pilgrimage through his forties, during a time of change and the self-discovery that ensued. It was a period of endings and new beginnings, with a frequent sense of isolation – and no doubt – a dash of midlife crisis thrown in for good measure!

The work is mostly calm and peaceful, but not always. It’s a representation of the ups and downs of daily life, especially through darker times. This time span saw days of peace, opportunity and hope, as well as stormy ones – and others of seemingly endless dark despair. These phases and emotions are captured in the various pieces. Ashley is drawn to structure, lines and shapes, which often appear in his photographs.

Monochrome holds a special place in his heart, the absence of colour directing the viewer’s eye more to the composition. His passion for clean, structured images with high contrast is evident in this exhibition.
