INTER.Locution

INTER.locution is a collective project that intertwines the stages and cycles central to humanity: birth and death, metamorphosis, everyday battles, and identity and transcendence. It brings together emerging visual storytellers from Brazil, amplifying the dialogues within their territories as they confront transformative shifts. The project showcases the cacophony of voices addressing the ordinary conflicts and crises—both visible and invisible—that shape daily life, reflecting the struggles of those challenged by the fragile validation of their identities.
Featuring selected photographs from a total collection of 80, this initiative illustrates our shared drift through natural transience, revealing the comedy and tragedy embedded in diverse personal narratives that resonate with global concerns. The investigation delves into intimate stories that explore themes such as environmental crises, domestic violence, sexual and gender identity, and mental health.
By intertwining pain and resilience, the project aims to collapse the divide between imagination and reality, focusing on human nature. It offers a provocative lens on a generation addressing past debts while redefining storytelling in Latin America, presenting a multifaceted reflection that seeks to repair our visual library and enrich our collective imagery.
Alfabetismo Visual (Visual Literacy) Brazilian Collective is dedicated to inspiring personal perspectives in photography through exploration and creativity. Comprising over one hundred photographers from diverse regions of Brazil, as well as contributors from Cape Verde, Portugal, and the USA, the educational program fosters the sharing of varied experiences as representations of contemporary narratives. The Collective’s photographers challenge traditional storytelling roles, exploring socio-political and cultural dialogues while empowering their communication through journalism, documentary, and art. They are integral to the emergence of new Brazilian storytellers in contemporary photography, inviting diverse interpretations and expressions.
