A series of floral portraits and landscapes, ‘impermanence’ is a reflection upon the transience of reality. There is nothing more humbling than the overwhelming effect nature has upon individuals to remind us of the fragility of the human condition, yet there is still always hope…
Lyra has taken a unique approach to flora, assembling the works by hand to bring the images to life in the third dimension. The majority of works were created when Lyra was predominantly housebound for months in 2009-10 due to severe vestibular neuritis, which caused vertigo, nausea, disequilibrium, and affected vision. During the slow recovery she started experimenting with craft techniques and applying them to original photographs from her archive. The results are as delicate and beautiful as the subjects depicted.
