“You taught me how to be a butterfly only so you could break my wings.” “Für mich. / A Way Of Reconciliation” is an autobiographic story of childhood sexual abuse. For this body of work, I utilise a variety of artistic mediums, including photography, writing, graphic design, found objects, and photographs from my family album.
This series serves as both a self-reflection and highlights sexual abuse as an all-encompassing cultural issue— statistics estimate that three out of five women will experience sexual abuse in her lifetime. This series evokes the multitude of ways in which sexual abuse can negatively impact a person’s well-being.
My interdisciplinary approach addresses the vague and subtle emotions that are often difficult to analyze with words alone. Through my creative practice, it is my ambition to provide support for other survivors of sexual abuse and encourage a space of self-reflection and solace.
