Etienne Cohen Art and Head On Photo Festival present the ‘language of light’, a group photography show featuring evocative monochrome and colour vignettes of Sydney. The ‘language of light’ explores the relationship between photographer and the medium of light. The wavelike particle of light, the way it interacts with an object to create form and volume is both mysterious and remarkable. Making pictures is about interpreting light, how it illuminates objects and draws its own picture on a sensitised surface. While cameras are the mechanised tools for taking photographs, they cannot see or think for themselves. This is the role of the photographer, to extend beyond the gadgetry of the camera, to visualise, to create an arresting image. Within this show, three Sydney photographers, namely Jean-Francois, Murton, and Zonca bring you their monochrome and colour works, a dynamic, energy driven triptych of light. From the surreal and the abstract, to the landscape and the fashion image, to the rise of the first rays of the sun to the fall of the moon at midnight, these photographs depict the ‘language of light’.
Participating photographers: Roberto Jean-Francois, Gregor Murton, Matthew Zonca
