Australian photographer Markus Andersen engages in a photographic conversation with Istanbul-based photographer Elif Suyabatmaz.
Redefining geographical boundaries through inspirational street photography and social media, they draw a portrait of their respective cities and cultures full of contrasts, humour and emotions.
Mirrored is an exhibition encompassing both documentary and street photography images of the cities of Sydney and Istanbul.
Between 2011 and 2014, Sydney-based photographer Markus Andersen and Istanbul-based photographer Elif Suyabatmaz responded to each others’ images with their own imagery, full of contrasts, humour and emotions.
The work is designed to tell a visual story of daily life in both cities, catching unguarded moments of the people, characteristics and architecture of both cities. The resulting images reflect both the di¡erences and similarities of the contemporary Turkish and Australian way of life, mirroring one another in both subtle and obvious ways.
