‘Dragonfly’ is a ravishing series of autumn-toned images, inspired by Buddhist notions of incarnation and reincarnation. They are the fruit of a nine-year personal project – Hardy’s dusky contemplation upon a singular figure: an archer on horseback in glorious feudal livery … and the ‘dragonfly’ motif that guides his eye.
The archer in these images is a master marksman, amongst the highest in his field, totally absorbed in his subject … as tough born for one thing. Every year on the same day he comes back to the same place and matches his skill with the best.
