Collectivism is an eclectic group of photographic artists who celebrate great diversity in ideas, styles, experiences and backgrounds. It is the way these differences work together that make Collectivism stand out. Taking the definition of the word ‘Collectivism’ to heart, (the practice of giving a group priority over each individual in it), these photographers value equality, cooperation and most of all, the beauty of the art of photography. Each member is a separate yet vital piece of the ‘Collectivism’ whole.
Collectivism has had two successful exhibitions with hEAd oN (‘She Is The Darkness’ in 2012 and ‘Do You Dream In Colour?’ in 2013) and are organising for a third for 2014.
For its third exhibition, Collectivism presents ‘A Creature I Don’t Know,’ which explores the dichotomy between the inner and outer self. It celebrates a loss of one’s controlled self, devoid of gain or inhibition, to the instinctive, the unfamiliar and the strange. The featured works navigate story and place, anchored in a constant and simultaneous process of seeking and fearing, knowing and unknowing. So the creature is born, swimming amongst the unfamiliar and the strange – a gift and a truth that reveals, shares and lives within our realities, our fears and our evolution.
Exhibiting photographers: Kristen Brooke, Jgor Cavallina, Laura Clarke, Ash Furnass, Victoria Mackey, Kat Mathieson, Lisa McTiernan, Roxanne Meik, Emily Moore, and Sonja Sipala.
