In 2009, Nicola Daley visited Kiribati, a group of islands in the Pacific which straddle the equator. Driving along a road on the main atoll, Tarawa, with lagoon on one side and the ocean on the other, she suddenly felt incredibly vulnerable and began to wonder how the 100,000 Kiribati citizens felt, being on the front line of the onlsaught of climate change.
The children in her photographs will grow up with their land a distant memory. Her photogrpahs illustrate an innocence that will soon be lost forever. Children frolic in the flooded areas of their homes but the water is slowly encroaching upon them.
