“All this momentum is doing me in!” Slipknot, Surfacing

Before an astronaut can voyage into space they must pass certain physical and psychological tests.

The human centrifuge pushes the astronauts ability to withstand extreme speed and propulsion, somewhat similar to the forces inside a rocket to space. Moving at excessive speeds can expel large amounts of energy and this momentum produces a degradation to both the mind and the body.

Using the human centrifuge as an analogy for contemporary photography, ‘Burnout’ explores the effect of technological progress on contemporary photo media. The artists involved, Lucas Davidson, Chris Hoopmann & David Manley use photography to investigate our psychological standing within these technological and sometimes dystopic developments.
