Do I belong or I am I alien?

To be part of a particular group, whether it be a race, culture or nation, certain personal qualities must be mirrored across all members of the group. This is belonging.

The collection of memories, experiences and associated emotions over a lifetime has a strong impact on the interactions between individuals and the world around us. When confronted with different settings, this collection determines the manner in which we engage with them. The reactions may include joy or pain, feelings of inadequacy, nostalgia or inspiration. Ultimately,  these unique responses are defined by the level of belonging a person experiences.

Using photography, the concept of belonging is explored through a variety of different environments. The exhibition includes images of contrasting landscapes, portraits and still lives, taken with film and digital cameras.
