The Artists in conversation series offers insights into the creative practices of Australian artists. Robbie Buck, broadcaster and well-known radio host, will facilitate a dynamic conversation with one of Australia’s greatest visual storytellers, William Yang. William is best known as a photographer who examines issues of cultural and sexual identity by documenting the lives of his friends and community through photography.

For more details go to the AGNSW website.

Since 1970, William Yang has photographed Sydney’s social life. In 1989 he integrated his skills as a writer and a visual artist and began performing monologues with slide projection in the theatre. They tell personal stories and explore issues of identity. After doing twelve full-length performances, many of which toured the world, he now works with Contemporary Asian Australian Performance teaching others his storytelling method. William had a retrospective exhibition, ‘Seeing and Being Seen’ at QAGOMA, Brisbane, in 2021.
