Portraits of Patti Semmler shortly before her 71st birthday.
Aside from all the accomplished drawings and paintings, Patti was for a time an integral part of avant garde happenings, experimental time based media, underground lms, art performance, and multi -media presentations. Hearing stories about her installation in 1978 at e National Gallery of Victoria (with music composed by Ollie Olsen) makes me wish that I was born a few decades earlier. I have however been witness to many informed installations, art performances / happenings that Patti Semmler has conceived and created for her students at the fertile and annual Geelong Fine Art School Exhibitions. Patti spends a signi cant part of each year preparing large scale events that nd their artistic place somewhere between uxus happenings and Dada. Embracing the unexpected, Patti Semmler possesses an ability to involve her students in national and international art ideas, but at a local and regional level.
