Experiencing Hong Kong for the third time, I found a new fascination with the city known affectionately as the City of Dreams. Having embraced and lived my life with immigrant parents, I can appreciate the desires along with the hardships of a people wanting to make change for a better way of life.
The fascination for me is the great divide between young and old, rich and poor. To walk through the streets of Hong Kong is like walking through bubbles of time. One moment I am happily window shopping in the elegant stores along the high street, and next a little old lady rushes past with her cart loaded with crumpled cardboard boxes. She’s dressed as if she has just come from the fields and doesn’t look as if she would have a penny to her name.
