Despite political changes within the country during the past 18 months, with the release from house arrest in 2010 of the leader for democracy Aung San Suu Kyi; life in Burma’s cities and countryside is still as it was 50 years ago due to Burma’s military government. I travelled to Burma 3 years ago and again in February this year. Because travelling through Burma is like being in a time warp of half a century ago, I designed the book in a journalistic style book – old stamps and documents, sepia and vintage style photos and a typewriter style font for the text. Typewriters are still used by businesses in Rangoon.
